Scott W. Dales is the chief judge of the bankruptcy judge for the United States bankruptcy court, Western District of Michigan. He was appointed as a bankruptcy judge in October 2007 to a renewable 14-year term.[1]
On October 1, 2013, Dales became chief judge of the court, succeeding Judge James D. Gregg.[2]
Education
Judge Dales graduated from the University of Michigan with his Bachelors degree and George Washington University with his J.D.[3][1]
Career
Dales served as a law clerk for the Honorable Con. G. Cholakis, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of New York. Following that, he practiced law for several years in Albany, New York, with Barrett, Gravante, Carpinello, and Stern, and in 1998 he moved to West Michigan to clerk for the Honorable James D. Gregg, chief judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Michigan. After that clerkship, Mr. Dales practiced law with Dykema in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and served as in-house counsel to National City Corporation and its bank and non-bank subsidiaries until 2007.[1]
