PIERRE, South Dakota: The November 2, 2010 general elections are just around the corner. This week, the secretary of state released the 2010 ballot question pamphlet. The pamphlet features each question that is scheduled to appear on the November ballot, including: the title, explanation and effect of the vote as provided by the attorney general. Additionally, the pamphlet includes arguments in support and opposition of the proposed measures.[1] The pamphlet can be found at every county auditor's office, public libraries and is available online.

2010 marks a relatively light year for ballot measures in South Dakota. In the past decade South Dakotans have seen an average of six measures on the statewide ballot, most of which were legislatively referred. In 2006 voters saw as many as 11 measures, more than half of which were citizen-initiated. This year, voters will see a total of four measures: two legislatively referred constitutional amendment, one veto referendum and one initiated state statute.
