General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 34.4 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Kerry Earley.

Smith received his J.D. from Rutgers School of Law in Newark, New Jersey.[2]
Career
Smith has been a court-appointed arbitrator in the Eighth Judicial District Court's Mandatory Arbitration Program since 1997. He is a short term trial judge. He has worked as a prosecutor, public defender, deputy attorney general in New Jersey, and general counsel for the Nevada Power Company and Southern Nevada Health District.[2]
