Three candidates file for judgeship of doomed district court
August 10, 2010
Belmont County, Ohio: Three candidates are seeking a judgeship on the Belmont County Eastern Division Court, even though county commissioners are planning to eliminate this court. After current judge D. William Davis announced his plan to retire, commissioners decided to abolish the court and distribute its cases to the Western and Northern districts. They expect to save the county approximately $109,000 a year through this decision. However, the move must be approved by the Ohio General Assembly before it takes effect. This will not likely happen before the November 2, 2010 general election in which St. Clairsville attorneys John Vavra, Charles Bean and David Trouten will run for the judgeship.[1]
