Two new judges appointed by governor

Santa Fe, New Mexico: The county of Doña Ana received two new judges on Friday, April 20, 2012.[1]
Governor Susana Martinez appointed former Assistant District Attorney Nelson Goodin to district judge for the New Mexico Third Judicial District Court. Attorney Beverly Singleman was appointed to magistrate judge.[1]
Nelson Goodin has filled the vacancy on the court that was left by the resignation of former Judge Michael Murphy. Murphy, who denies the allegations, faces bribery charges, relating to contributions to the campaign of former Governor Bill Richardson.[1]
Beverly Singleman took over the court of retired Magistrate Judge Olivia Nevarez Garcia. Singleman comes from a Las Cruces law firm, where she spent more than 20 years working. She has also served as a judge on the New Mexico Court of Appeals.[1]
The bribery case against former Judge Michael Murphy includes Singleman as a central figure. Singleman reported that she was encouraged by Murphy "to make payments to an intermediary for the Richardson campaign to secure an appointment to the District Court bench."[1]
Before Susana Martinez was governor, she had been the District Attorney for the New Mexico Third Judicial District Court. However, due to possible conflicts of interest, the Murphy case has been given to another district attorney.[1]
