Walter D. Braud is a judge of the Fourteenth Circuit Court of Illinois.[1] He was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in August 2001 and retained by election in 2002 and 2008.[2] He was retained again on November 4, 2014, for a term that expired on December 6, 2020.[3]

Braud was retained to the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Court with 77.7 percent of the vote on November 4, 2014. [3] 

Evaluations

The Illinois State Bar Association and participating attorneys rated Walter D. Braud as Recommended for retention in a 2014 poll.[4]

Education

Braud earned a B.A. from Roosevelt University, going on to receive his J.D. from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was admitted to the bar in 1968.[5]

Career

Before attending law school, Braud was a sixth grade teacher on the west side of Chicago. He began taking law classes at night and in 1969 moved with his wife and children to Rock Island, Illinois. He then worked as an assistant state's attorney until 1971, after which he pursued a career in private practice (most recently with his own firm, Braud Westensee & VanDerGinst Ltd) until his judicial appointment in 2001. He also occasionally served as a public defender.[2]

Braud is known within his community for his good singing voice.[2]
