Waterloo proposed sales tax will make ballot
August 18,2009
WATERLOO, Iowa: City council members of Waterloo, Iowa debated on whether or not to include a 1 percent sales tax on the November 3, 2009 ballot. The referendum to extend the sales tax for another seven years was passed to the ballot by a vote of 4-3.
If approved by voters on the November ballot, the sales tax will help improve and create new city streets with the collected revenue. According to councilman Reggie Schmitt: “This is totally up to voters. We’re crafting the language.”
