Three seats on the Southside Independent School District board of trustees in Texas were up for general election on May 6, 2017. In the race for Position 3, newcomer Ruth Arocha defeated incumbent Norbert Chavez III and candidate Sonny Santos. The Position 5 incumbent chose not to seek re-election. Anita Reyna defeated fellow newcomer Bruce Brannon to win the open seat. According to the San Antonio Express News, the race for Position 4 was won by newcomer Benito Flores. Nine votes separated Flores and fellow candidate Maggie Morales. Flores defeated Morales, incumbent Loren Brewer, and newcomer Daniel "Buddy" Vallejo to win the seat.[1][2]
