“ | Municipal courts have jurisdiction over misdemeanor crimes, municipal ordinances and city traffic violations. Municipal judges may conduct initial appearances in which defendants are advised of the charges being filed, as well as bond hearings and preliminary hearings.[2] | ” |
Selection method
Judges of the Mississippi Municipal Courts are appointed by local authorities with no standard term length. As of May 2023, there were 237 municipal courts in Mississippi. Most municipalities would have a single judge.[3]
