Jurisdiction

This court holds the following jurisdiction:[1]

§571-8.4 Jurisdiction. The senior judge or judge of the family court of the circuit may direct that any case coming within the jurisdictional provisions of this chapter, or all cases of a class or within a district to be designated by the senior judge or judge, shall be heard by the district family judge. [L 1973, c 219, pt of §1; gen ch 1985][2]

Selection method

Judges of the Hawaii Family Courts are each appointed by the chief justice of the state supreme court. To serve on this court, a judge must be a resident of the country, state and circuit, and have five years of experience practicing law in the state. This position has a mandatory retirement age of 70.[3]
