Edith-Helen Hilts was the District 9 member on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board. She was first elected to the seat in 2003 and was re-elected on October 1, 2013.
Biography
Edith-Helen "Sunni" Hilts sought re-election for her fourth term as District 9 representative on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board. Sunni is a retired teacher who has served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Alaska School Boards, member of the Seldovia Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Parent Advisory Committee for the Susan B. English school. She led successful campaigns to have "Kids First" banners placed at both AASB and Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board meetings.[1]

On October 7, 2003 Hilts was elected to the District 9 position on the Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board as a write in candidate. There were a total of 193 votes cast in the election.[6]

2010
In 2010, Hilts campaigned on a platform supporting increasing educational opportunties and graduation rates for Native Alaskan students and special needs students.
"I still am concerned about Alaska Native children, their education, why are they dropping out more than other children. I'm still concerned about special needs children, how we meet those needs in very, very small schools."[7] |
