Three candidates recommended for Licking County judgeship

Columbus, Ohio: An Ohio panel has recommended to Gov. Strickland three candidates for a seat on the Licking County Municipal Court. The Governor will appoint one of them to replace Judge David Branstool, who was promoted to the Licking County Court of Common Pleas earlier this year. The new judge will be required to run in a November 2011 election to retain the position. The candidates are as follows:

• Greg Carter has managed his own law firm in Newark, OH since 1992. He also served as an acting judge on the Licking County Municipal Court from 1996 to 2002.

• Rodney Nelson, like Carter, has practiced law in Newark since 1992. He is also an acting judge of the Municipal Court and has served in this position since 2004.

• David Stansbury is also an acting Municipal Court judge. He has worked in this capacity since 2005, while maintaining a Newark law practice which he started in 2004.

Wayne Brown and J. Michael King also applied for the position, but were not recommended.
