Tara Parker was a candidate for the District 2 seat on the Lowndes County Schools school board in Georgia in the general election on May 20, 2014.
Biography
Parker and her husband have lived in Lowndes County for more than 22 years. She is a graduate of Valdosta State University. She has a bachelor’s degree in public Relations/communications and a master’s degree in public administration. Parker is an adjunct professor of American government/political science at Valdosta State University through the South Georgia State College Entry Program. She is the mother of two sons.[1]

Lowndes County Schools is located in Lowndes County, Georgia. Lowndes County is home to 114,638 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[3] Lowndes County Schools was the 37th-largest school district in Georgia, serving 10,452 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[4]

Lowndes County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Georgia in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 22.3 percent of Lowndes County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 27.8 percent for Georgia as a whole.
