Thomas F. Whelan is a justice of the Suffolk County Supreme Court in the 10th Judicial District of New York. He was elected to this position in November 2000.[1][2]
He was re-elected on November 4, 2014, for a term that expires on December 31, 2028.[3]

General: He faced Sharon Gianelli, Anna R. Anzalone, Angelo A. Delligatti, Kathy G. Bergmann, David A. Morris, Sandra L. Sgroi (incumbent), Gail Prudenti (incumbent) and Michele M. Woodard (incumbent) in the general election on November 4, 2014, and won with 14.2 percent of the vote. Candidates competed for six open seats.

Education
Whelan received his undergraduate degree from Columbia University. He earned his J.D. from the Brooklyn School of Law.[1]
Career
Whelan worked as an attorney in private practice before his elevation to the bench. He started his law career as a law clerk to Suffolk County Court judge Harvey Sherman and New York Supreme Court Justice Alfred Lama. He also served as the town attorney for Babylon, New York and the principal court attorney for the Suffolk County Supreme Court law department.[1]
