North Carolina appellate judges lagging in pay
July 13, 2011
North Carolina: Judicial salaries for appellate judges in North Carolina were below the national average in 2010. On the North Carolina Supreme Court, associate judges earned $137,249 last year, while the median for the county was $146,917. Judges of the North Carolina Court of Appeals made $131,531, while the national average was $140,732.[1]
Judges in the state won't expect this to change anytime soon. The adopted budget for 2011-2013, which was passed in June, cuts $38 million from the judicial branch in the first year. That is the equivalent of 8.02% of the department's budget.[2]
