Biography

Anthony Kenney was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He earned a high school diploma from Scotlandville Magnet High School, a bachelor's degree from Southern University and A&M College in 2019, and a graduate degree from Louisiana State University in 2021. His career experience includes working as a nonprofit executive. Kenney has served as the vice chairman of the Baton Rouge North Economic Development District, chairman of the Scotlandville High School PAC Advisory Board, and was a founding board member of the One Scotlandville Foundation. He was the student member of the Louisiana Board of Regents from 2018 to 2019.[1]

Anthony Bernard Kenney Jr. was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the parents Joyce Kenney and Anthony Kenney Sr. Anthony is a proud HBCU graduate and alumnus of Southern University and A&M College. He majored in Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. He recently graduated from Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communications, obtaining his Master’s in Strategic Communications and Public Affairs. During his matriculation at Southern, he was a part of numerous organizations such as the Student Government Association, serving as the 2018-2019 SGA President, the Human Jukebox Marching Band, and as a Spring '19 initiate of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Currently, he's the Deputy Executive Director for 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge. He was formerly the Legislative Aide for Louisiana State Rep. Vanessa LaFleur and former State Rep. Ted James for Louisiana’s House of Representatives District 101. He is also a part of various community organizations such as Forum225, Bike N Vote, and the North Baton Rouge Economic Development District, where he serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. Anthony is an Amazon best-selling author and was recently a co-author for The HBCU Experience Movement, LLC Presents: The HBCU Experience: The Southern University System 2nd Edition.
  • Community Desires:

    Our community is eager for growth and development. Residents have expressed a strong desire for new businesses, restaurants, stores, and entertainment options in our area. By focusing on these developments, we can foster a healthy economy that encourages residents to invest and spend money locally, supporting local entrepreneurs & creating jobs.

    A pressing issue our district faces is the lack of access to essential services and retail options within a reasonable distance. Currently, there are minimal local grocery stores & essential services nearby, forcing residents to travel long distances for everyday needs. By addressing this issue, we aim to bring convenience and accessibility to our convenience and accessibility.
  • Community Centered Progress: Keeping community at the center of the master planning process will ensure that policies are in place to protect the historic character of District 2 and protect housing affordability for our most vulnerable community members. ​​ Community Infrastructure: We are committed to continuing the investments sparked by the 2015 Masterplan put forth by then Mayor Kip Holden. By capitalizing on existing development and working with community, we will ensure that the next 10-year Master Plan will include more greenspace development, stormwater mitigation, & infrature improvement. Youth Engagement: Providing recreational programs and community activities is crucial to keeping young people engaged and away from crime.
  • Crime: Understanding Crime Causes​ Root Causes: Addressing the underlying reasons for crime is key to long-term prevention. Factors such as a lack of programming and limited mental health services contribute to criminal behavior. By exploring comprehensive solutions, we can prevent crime before it starts. ​ Community-Police Relationship: Building a strong relationship between the community and law enforcement is vital for improving trust and collaboration. By fostering open communication and mutual respect, we can work together to create a safer environment for all residents. ​
