A primary election was held on February 16, 2016.[4] Incumbent Liza Collins faced four challengers—Richard Heiden, Lisa Kosin, Thomas Lyons, and Rebecca Rieber—in the primary election. Collins, Heiden, Lyons, and Rieber received the most votes, which allowed them to advance to general election on April 5, 2016.[1][2] Collins and Rieber won the general election.[3]

Funding
Lyons filed an exemption statement detailing he would not spend or receive more than $1,000 toward his campaign. Because of this, he did not have to file additional campaign finance reports for this election.[5]
