Issues in the election

Board member fighting

Board Chairman Hank Bailey, who did not seek re-election, reprimanded board members for their campaigning behavior in late October 2014, calling the election "the most contentious campaign for school board vacancies [he's] seen." Bailey said that he received complaints about board members making derogatory and critical comments about one another, and, while he did not specify the nature of the complaints, he stressed that "they do not involve anything illegal, they do not involve anything immoral or anything like that." As a result, Bailey went over several parts of the district policy with the board, pointing out that board members should be acting with "integrity, high ideals and human understanding." Bailey did not ask for any action to be taken following the meeting. Board member Mark Klaassen said that discussing the topic was a worthy one, and that members of the board "need to be sure that [they] can respectfully disagree, but [they] need to do so showing the respect to [their] colleagues."[6]
