Massachusetts: Yesterday, Governor Deval Patrick's first appointee to the Massachusetts Appeals Court was confirmed by the Governor's Council. Judd J. Carhart will be the court's newest member.[1]

Carhart has served as a judge on the Massachusetts Superior Courts since 1993. Before that, he both served as a district attorney and worked in private practice.[2]

Carhart was nominated by Governor Patrick on September 14, 2010. The Governor's Council, the body elected annually by the state legislature to aid in the selection of judicial appointees, voted 6-1 to confirm Carhart. The lone "nay" vote was Councilor Marilyn M. Devaney, who did not provide details of her reluctance to support Carhart's nomination at this time.[1]
