Dayton, Ohio: After negotiations, Judge A.J. Wagner decided to give up his seat on the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas to newly-appointed Steven Dankof. Wagner had announced in November of 2010 that he would retire on December 31, 2010. Gov. Strickland, on December 30th, then appointed Steven Dankof to fill the seat. That same day, Wagner rescinded his retirement at the last minute because he found out that his staff members would lose their jobs under the new judge. Wagner, Dankof and former Montgomery County Democratic Chairman Dennis Lieberman discussed the situation on January 3rd and 4th. Dankof was then sworn in to office. The Governor's office stated that Wagner had given up his seat. Wagner explained that he had negotiated job security with the new judge for all three of his staff members.[1]
