District attorney is an elected position in the state of Colorado according to the state's constitution.

Election

Colorado district attorneys are elected by the registered voters from their designated district.

The district attorney is the lead legal representative that takes on cases, defending positions the district takes.[1]

Position overview

The district attorney prosecutes criminal cases, prosecutes civil forfeiture cases, provides victim's services, advises law enforcement in preparation of affidavits, administers victim's compensation programs, prosecutes and diverts juvenile cases, represents the State of Colorado at inquests, and appears before and advises the Grand Jury.[1]
