This week's question was, As of Jan. 17, how many people have filed with the FEC to run for president in 2024?

You answered: 314.
The correct answer was 531.

As of Jan. 17, 531-one people have filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for president in 2024. The includes 77 Democratic candidates (14.5%), 145 Republican candidates (27.3%), and 309 nonpartisan or minor party candidates (58.2%). This figure excludes candidates whose filings have expired or who we identified as fake candidates.

The number of filings in the 2024 election is the third most in 40 years. In 2016, 1,762 candidates filed with the FEC to run for president. In 2020, 1,212 candidates filed.

Thanks for your response!
