Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection Expansion Project
In 2021, Ballotpedia asked voters what questions they had for their candidates and what pressing issues they wanted their elected officials to address. Voters had until June 4th to submit those questions for possible inclusion in our Candidate Connection survey.
Ballotpedia recommended submissions:
- Be open-ended
- Be unbiased
- Be fewer than 75 words
- Require little to no explanatory text and contain limited/no jargon
- Focus on local issues
- Ask for specifics from the candidate
- Center around a single subject
Cities chosen
Ballotpedia chose six cities from around the United States for the 2021 Candidate Connection Expansion Project.
Birmingham, Alabama
The city of Birmingham, Alabama, held general elections for mayor and city council on August 24, 2021. A runoff election was scheduled for October 5, 2021. The filing deadline for this election was July 10, 2021.
Atlanta, Georgia
The city of Atlanta, Georgia, held general elections for mayor and city council on November 2, 2021. A runoff election was scheduled for November 30, 2021. The filing deadline for this election was August 20, 2021.
Minneapolis, Minnesota
The city of Minneapolis, Minnesota, held general elections for mayor, city council, and other city positions on November 2, 2021. The filing deadline for this election was August 10, 2021.
Jersey City, New Jersey
The city of Jersey City, New Jersey, held general elections for mayor and city council on November 2, 2021. A runoff election, if necessary, was held on December 7, 2021. The filing deadline for this election was August 30, 2021.[1]
