Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska. As of 2020, its population was 291,247. Anchorage is a unified home rule municipality created in 1975 through the unification of the governments of the City of Anchorage and the Greater Anchorage Area Borough, making Anchorage one of the largest municipalities in the nation in terms of square mileage.
