Elections
2014
Four at-large seats on the governing board were up for election in 2014. Two of the seats were regular four-year terms. Barry Kimmons and Shelly Smith Hornback ran for four-year terms along with incumbent Steven Yamamori.[1]
The other two seats were two-year terms to complete the remainder of two unexpired terms. These vacancies were originally filled by the appointment of Steven Yamamori and Shawn Watt. Their terms expired as soon as an elected officer can take their place in this general election. Three candidates, Tawnya Pfitzer, Jean Gray and Courtney Schuh, ran for a two-year term seat.[2]

Campaign themes
2014
Schuh provided the following statement on her campaign website:
“ | I am a community member, volunteer, parent, and wife. I believe in the power of our education system. For the last 3 years I regularly attended school board meetings to make sure that I had knowledge of the changes our governing board and superintendent were making. I am not afraid to ask questions, I want to have an understanding of the issues that surround the education of our children. There are 3 main things that are important to me. First, money needs to go to students and their services first, teachers and aids second, and administration last. As the battle for classroom funding is decided I want to see that money restored to our students first and foremost. Second, I want to understand and then make a plan to retain our best teachers, there has been an exodus of great teachers to other districts and careers I want to retain the best. Last, I want to engage our community, not just parents but everyone who lives in our district. It is to our benefit that we live in an A district and that our schools are ranked well. Community volunteers, parents, great teachers and supportive administrators make this a reality. If we are this successful today how much better could we be as a whole if everyone was helping.[4] | ” |
