Denise M. Dawson
Denise M. Dawson was a Democratic candidate New Mexico Public Education Commissioner in district 8. No candidates for either party had filed to run by the deadline; Dawson thus filed to run as a write-in candidate in June 7 Democratic primary in order to prevent the seat from being filled by appointment. With 216 votes, Dawson failed to receive enough votes to win the Democratic primary or become the presumptive winner of the general election.[1]

Dawson was born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico. A teacher, she is the President of the Roswell Education Association and serves on the board of directors of the National Education Association-New Mexico.
