Lisa Durden
Lisa Durden is a candidate who ran on the Green Party ticket for lieutenant governor of New Jersey in the 2017 election. She and gubernatorial nominee Seth Kaper-Dale were defeated in the November 7, 2017, election.
Biography
A graduate of Seton Hall University, Durden has been involved in numerous media and commentary roles over the years. In 1996, Durden launched The Lisa Durden Show, where she served as host and executive producer. She founded Lisa Durden Unlimited Productions in 1999, and still served in both roles at the time of her lieutenant gubernatorial run. Durden was credited as an associate producer and researcher of Brick City, working on the mini-series between 2008 and 2010. Durden also served as an associate producer on the PBS documentary Soul Food Junkies in 2010 and 2011. Durden taught mass communications and popular culture classes at Essex Community College in 2017.[1][2]
Dismissal from Essex Community College
On June 6, 2017, Durden appeared as a guest commentator on the FOX News program Tucker Carlson Tonight. In her appearance, Durden defended the decision of a local chapter of Black Lives Matter to hold a Memorial Day event that was open only to African-Americans. On June 23, 2017, Essex Community College announced that it was terminating Durden's employment, citing the concern for potential disruptions to the institution's mission.[3] The exchange was cited by Seth Kaper-Dale's campaign website as a factor in his decision to select Durden as his running mate.[4]
