Robert E. Long Jr. is a judge of the Florida 1st District Court of Appeal. He assumed office on June 30, 2020. His current term ends on January 2, 2029.
Long ran for re-election for judge of the Florida 1st District Court of Appeal. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.
Long was a judge on the Second Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed by Republican Governor Rick Scott on June 24, 2016, to succeed Judge George S. Reynolds III.[1] Gov. DeSantis appointed Long to Florida's First District Court of Appeal on June 10, 2020. The appointment filled the seat of retiring judge James Wolf.[2][3]
Biography
Long received a bachelor's degree from Florida State University and a J.D. from the University of Florida. At the time of his judicial appointment, he served as general counsel to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. From 2013 to 2014, he was an attorney at Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A., and from 2008 to 2013, he served as a judge advocate in the U.S. Navy.[1]
