Slayton won re-election to the Escambia County School District school board to represent District 5 in Florida outright in the primary on August 18, 2020, after the primary and general election were canceled.

The primary election was canceled. William Slayton Jr. (Nonpartisan) won the election without appearing on the ballot.
2016
One of the five seats on the Escambia County School District school board was up for by-district primary election on August 30, 2016. Kevin Adams defeated fellow newcomer Willie Kirkland Jr. for the open District 1 seat. The District 4 and District 5 seats were originally set to be on the ballot, but when District 4 incumbent Patty Hightower and District 5 incumbent William Slayton Jr. were unopposed in their bids for re-election at the passing of the filing deadline, they were automatically re-elected.[1]
