Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I am running for City Council because I want Garland to be a place where people want to work, play, and live. As a Garland resident, Garland small business owner, and volunteer I have become involved in many leadership roles making a difference in countless lives. I look forward to bringing my passion for leadership to our City Council.

Garland is a great city with a lot to offer and I have witnessed this through my involvement with the chamber, city, school district, first responders, and volunteering. I want everyone to be as proud of Garland as I am. I want a Garland that has amenities to offer its citizens, and attracts people to visit Garland, and attracts people to move to Garland.

Although I am running for District 1 Council seat, I am looking to the future for all of Garland. What happens in other Districts affects District 1 as well. Everything starts with Garland's success.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Keep Garland moving toward the future ($423 million bond progress)

• Keep Garland safe (well-funded, well trained first responders)
• Attract visitors and new residents (protect our northern gateway through prudent development of the 190 corridor)

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

The area of public policy that I am most passionate about is budget. As a business owner, I understand that we cannot spend more than we bring in and we must do the most good with what we have.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

Your city council representative has the more effect on your day-to-day life than any other politician. Your city council affects the potholes on your street, the maintenance of public areas, your trash service, etc.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I look up to my mother who raised 4 children on her own with no formal education. She sacrificed and made sure we never went without. She taught me perseverance and responsibility.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

When I was 6 years old, the Liberty Bell toured the nation. It came to our school and I got to touch it. The memory of being so close to such a historically significant artifact was not lost on my young mind. That helped to instill a sense of patriotism that I have today.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was delivering newspapers from age 9-14. I delivered 3 different newspapers on the same route, thus increasing my efficiency.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

I believe that to be on city council you do not necessarily need previous political or government experience. You do need to understand that you do not represent yourself; you represent your constituents and must do what is best for the citizens of Garland.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

Skills that are helpful for a council representative include understanding government budgets, understanding the city charter, understanding Parliamentary procedure.
