Taxes- St Paul's property taxes are high and the current council wants to raise them even more. Also, there's a proposal to raise sales taxes by a percent. I am against raising taxes in St. Paul in any form.
Police protection- we can't call ourselves the the most livable city when kids are afraid to walk to school and seniors can't use public transit for fear of violence. We need to fully fund and support the police.
Historic preservation. We need to preserve our historic buildings and greenways. The current plan to cut down trees on Summit in order to add bike lanes to a street that already has bike lanes is a great example of misguided planning and wasteful spending. I would block implementation of the plan.
Yes, crime rates have gone up in the last three years. I monitor the city's crime map, as well as talk to may neighbors and note what is happening on my own block.
We need to support and fully fund the St. Paul police department. We have three years of history now to see how the defund the police movement has worked and the results are clear. We need to remove abusive police officers, yes, but not having police on the streets isn't an option.
I'd like to see access to public transit improved, which means improving safety on trains, buses and at stations. Also, more access to the river for recreation.
Maintaining and building infrastructure is the most important job of city officers. I plan to prioritize Public Works funding so that we can avoid another mess like we saw in the winter of 2022-23.
I delivered newspapers beginning at age 13. I did that for two years, then, while in high school, worked as a dishwasher, grocery shelf stocker, and for a while, as an actual ditch digger for a company that installed satellite dishes.
I have a background in urban planning as a landscape architect, and understand small business, as a small business owner. In addition, I have two children in the local public schools, have served on our neighborhood's district council and have founded a community garden just outside of Ward 1
