Rinaldi has served as a representative for Canton on the Stark County Democratic Party Executive Committee.[1]

Two of five seats on the Canton City Schools Board of Education in Ohio were up for general election on November 7, 2017. One seat was up for at-large election and the other was up for by-district election. Both incumbents filed for re-election. Incumbent John M. Rinaldi was the only one to file for the at-large seat and won unopposed. In District 1, incumbent Richard S. Milligan defeated challenger C. David Morgan.[2][3]

Rinaldi won a second term on the board against Jennifer Keaton and Terrance L. Jones on November 6, 2007. He did not complete this term in office as he resigned in May 2009.[6]
