Jacquelyn L. Lee is a district court judge for the 11th Judicial District, serving Harnett, Johnston, and Lee counties of North Carolina.[1] She was elected to the court in 2000 and re-elected in 2012 for another four-year term.[2][3]
Lee won re-election in 2016.[4] The general election took place on November 8, 2016.
Education
Lee received both her B.A. in education in 1967 and her J.D. in 1991 from Campbell University.[3]
Career
Lee began her career as an attorney with the firm Narron, O'Hale and Whittington, P.A. She was then elected to the district court in 2000.[3]

Selection method

The North Carolina District Courts utilize partisan elections in the selection of judges. District judges serve four-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving. From 2002 through 2016, elections for district court judges were nonpartisan; however, on March 23, 2017, the North Carolina legislature changed the method of election to partisan elections by overriding Gov. Roy Cooper's veto of HB 100. This change was effective with the 2018 district court elections.[6][7][8]
Qualifications
To serve on this court, a judge must be:[6]
- licensed to practice law in the state;
- a district resident; and
- under the age of 72 (retirement at 72 is mandatory).
