Sidney Butcher is an associate judge for the Seventh District Court in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was appointed to the court on December 12, 2018, by Gov. Larry Hogan (R). He assumed office on January 4, 2019.[1][2]
Education
Butcher received his undergraduate education from Florida A&M University and his J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law.[1]
Career
At the time of his appointment, Butcher had worked as an attorney with the Office of the Attorney General since February 2018. Butcher previously worked as counsel in the White-Collar Group at Whiteford Taylor Preston LLP for three years. Prior to that position, Butcher was a prosecutor in the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office for 10 years.[1]
Butcher is also a former member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education in Maryland, representing General Assembly District 32. He was appointed to the board on February 14, 2018.[3] Butcher ran for re-election to County Council District 1, but lost the primary on June 26, 2018.
