Candidate Connection

Daniel Gade completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Gade's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Economic Growth Individual Liberty Constitutional Fidelity

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Economic growth and empowerment Energy and the environment Healthcare and Veterans

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Elected officials should humbly serve in accordance with their oaths. I am not a professional politician, but am a servant of the Constitution. The Commonwealth of Virginia deserves a Senator who is focused on the needs of his constituents.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I remember the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt. I was 5 or 6 years old at the time.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

We were very poor growing up. My parents took a job as the part-time janitors at our church, and paid me $2 per hour to clean bathrooms, vacuum between pews, and other tasks.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Increasing centralization of power and decision-making in Washington DC. Power and autonomy belong to the people and the States.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for senators to have previous experience in government or politics?

America is ready for non-politicians to be in elected office. The current US Senator from Virginia presents himself as a moderate but his voting record shows him to be a rubber stamp for the policies of the national Democrat party.

What do you think of the filibuster?

It is a critical way to protect the rights of the minority in the Senate.

What criteria would you apply when deciding whether to confirm presidential appointees?

Are the qualified and will they serve in accordance with the law and not their own personal policy preferences. Congress makes the law, and the Executive branch executes the law. For judicial nominees, the key question is whether they will serve the Constitution faithfully as written and ratified rather than in accordance with their preferences or the "living Constitution" idea.

Do you believe it’s beneficial to build relationships with other senators?

Of course.
