Campaign themes
2016
Schultz issued the following statement regarding his bid for office:
“ | I'm running for House because, quite frankly, I'm angry at our legislature for not putting our interests first. In the last legislative session, our lawmakers ripped $115 million dollars from the K-12 education budget, and then passed out $108 million in corporate tax relief, and then the corporations skipped town when the oil wells went dry. Our property tax system is the most convoluted in the country. Our legislature sat by and did nothing while our drug addiction to heroin and methamphetamines killed us and our neighbors; we have a drug addiction in Minot that requires a new comprehensive approach to treatment and sentencing reform. Finally, and maybe most appalling, is that the Minot flood happened five years ago, and we haven't even had a formal discussion about revamping the flood plan, even though we were promised a new Plan, in place, by 2021. | ” |
