A vote about whether to recall Carol Berning from her position as a member of the Leoti, Kansas, city council took place on August 3, 2010.[1] Berning was recalled from her seat.[2] However, two days prior to the recall election, Berning resigned from her position. The council had not yet accepted her resignation when the recall election took place.[2]
Background
Jeanene French, a member of the group who led the recall effort, said, "We were successful in obtaining enough signatures to call for a vote, at the Aug. 3 primary, whether or not to remove Carol Berning from the Leoti City Council."[1]
The motivation for the recall effort is anger on the part of city employees about a new employee handbook that mandates fewer hours of sick leave every month, fewer paid days off a year and a different method of calculating overtime hours.[1]
