Carolyn B. Smoot
Carolyn B. Smoot is a former judge of the First Circuit Court in Illinois. She was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court on December 15, 2010, to replace retiring Williamson County Judge Ronald R. Eckiss and elected to a full term in 2012.[1][2][3]
Smoot retired in 2016, effective November 30, 2016.[4]
Education
Smoot received her B.A. in Social Welfare from Olivet Nazarene University and her J.D. from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 1983.[1]
Career
Smoot worked as attorney for 27 years before joining the circuit court. Since 1998, she has served as the Director of Paralegal Studies Program at Southern Illinois University.[1]
2012 election
Smoot was elected to a full term on Nov. 6, 2012, defeating Andrea McNeill with 54.0 percent of the vote. She was unopposed in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012, receiving 100 percent of the vote.[3][5][6][7]
