Kentucky held nonpartisan elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on May 17, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was January 26, 2016.[1] Julie Hawes Gordon defeated Clifton Boswell, Angela Thompson, and Susan Montalvo Gesser in the Kentucky 6th Circuit Family Court general election.[2]

Selection method

Judges of the Kentucky Family Courts are elected to eight-year terms in nonpartisan elections. They must run for re-election if they wish to serve subsequent terms.[3][4]

The chief judge is selected by his or her peers and serves a two-year term.[3]

Qualifications
In order to serve on this court, a judge must be:[3]

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • a resident of the represented district for at least two years; and
  • licensed to practice law for at least eight years.
