An effort to recall Sonya Nevaquaya and Jerry Tahsequah from their positions as a Comanche Business Committee member and the secretary/treasurer, respectively, were initiated in 2016. Both recalls, which occurred several months apart, were approved.

Eleanor McDaniel was the petitioner leading to recall effort of Sonya Nevaquaya. The Comanche Business Committee member was accused of abuse of authority, self-serving, favoritism, and nepotism. A special meeting of Comanche voters about the recall of Nevaquaya was held on March 19, 2016. With a vote of 143-20, she was removed from office.[1]

McDaniel then began collecting signatures for a petition to recall Comanche secretary/treasurer Jerry Tahsequah. The petition accuses Tahsequah of "gross neglect of duty and conduct that has brought disrepute on the tribe by his abuse of authority, misappropriation, and overspending of tribal funds, and for favoritism, nepotism and use of tribal resources for his personal benefit."[2] The special recall meeting was held on October 15, 2016. Tahsequah was recalled by a vote of 173-1.[3]
