David S. Swartz is the chief judge of the 22nd Circuit Court in Washtenaw County, Michigan. He was appointed to the court by former Governor John Engler on April 3, 1997, to replace former Judge Patrick J. Conlin.[1] Swartz was elected to the court in 1998 and re-elected in 2002 and 2008. Swartz was re-elected to the court on November 4, 2014, to another six-year term commencing on January 1, 2015, and ending on December 31, 2020.[2][3][4][5][6]

Education

Swartz received his B.S. from Central Michigan University in 1969 and his J.D. degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1972.[5]

Career

Swartz began his career in 1973 as an assistant prosecutor in Washtenaw County and worked in that position until 1982. He then worked as a private practice lawyer with the firms of Dykema, Gossett, Spencer, Goodnow & Trigg, Laird, Chin, Schwartz & Swartz, and Conlin, McKenney & Philbrick, P.C. In January 1995, he was appointed to the 14A Judicial District Court, where he served until his appointment to the 22nd Circuit Court in 1997.[1][5]
