Denise Kern represented District 4 on the Comal Board of Trustees in Texas. First elected in 2014, Kern was automatically re-elected to a second term after her May 6, 2017 election was canceled due to lack of opposition.

Kern earned her B.A. in elementary education from the University of Montana in 1975. She later received an M.S. in education from Drake University in 1979. Kern also holds a Ph.D. in guidance and counseling psychology from the University of Wyoming. She worked as an assistant principal, principal, and program coordinator for the district until her retirement in 2013. Kern volunteers her time with the Comal County Early Impact Team and the St. Jude's Ranch for Children.[1][2]

Two of seven seats on the Comal Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on May 6, 2017. Incumbent Laurie Schley lost to former board member Jason York in the race for District 3. In District 4, incumbent Denise Kern was unopposed in her re-election bid. Due to lack of opposition, the District 4 election was canceled and Kern was automatically re-elected.[3][4]

I have a passion for students and teachers and am excited to serve. I believe it is important to focus on strong academics, strong fiscal oversight and strong growth management. I believe my experience as an educator can give an added perspective to the board.
