Noteworthy DisputesHere's the latest on noteworthy recounts, lawsuits, and other election disputes. RecountsConnecticut: On Nov. 13, election officials completed the recount for Connecticut House of Representatives District 90. Incumbent Craig Fishbein (R) defeated Jim Jinks (D) by 19 votes. Unofficial returns had Fishbein leading Jinks by 21 votes. Initial returns had shown Jinks leading Fishbein, but officials discovered these returns omitted results from one of the district's polling places, triggering the recount. All 151 Connecticut House districts were up for election on Nov. 3. Media outlets projected Democrats would retain control of the chamber. Florida: On Nov. 12, the manual recount in Florida Senate District 37 concluded, with Ileana Garcia (R) defeating incumbent Jose Javier Rodriguez (D) by 34 votes. Preliminary results showed Garcia leading Rodriguez by 31 votes. A machine recount, which triggered the manual recount, had narrowed the margin to 28 votes in Garcia's favor. Twenty of the 40 seats in the Florida Senate were up for election on Nov. 3. Media outlets projected Republicans would retain control of the chamber. Missouri: On Nov. 12, the Greene County Clerk’s Office released results from its manual recount for Missouri House of Representatives District 135. In the recount, Betsy Fogle defeated incumbent Steve Helms (R) by 76 votes. Preliminary results showed Fogle leading Helms by 80 votes. All 163 Missouri state House districts were up for election on Nov. 3. Media outlets projected Republicans would retain control of the chamber. LawsuitsWe are tracking 33 post-election lawsuits, 17 of which directly involve at least one of the two major presidential campaigns. For complete details on all of the lawsuits we're tracking, click here. Pennsylvania: On Nov. 12, Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt ruled that Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar (D) lacked statutory authority to extend the deadline for mail-in voters to submit missing proof of identity. Leavitt barred election officials from counting ballots for which they received identification after Nov. 9, the statutory deadline. Boockvar had originally extended the deadline to Nov. 12. On Nov. 4, the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee sued Boockvar and the state's 67 county election boards, alleging the deadline extension violated state law. On Nov. 5, Leavitt, a Republican, ordered election officials to segregate the ballots in question but did not invalidate them. Upcoming deadlinesAbsentee/mail-in voting deadlinesFive states and the District of Columbia have upcoming secondary receipt deadlines for absentee/mail-in ballots. In these states, ballots generally must have been postmarked on or before Election Day, but they will be accepted if they are received within a certain number of days after Nov. 3. These secondary receipt deadlines are listed below in chronological order.
