Erin Bennett was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 31 of the Colorado State Senate.

Bennett's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“

- Good jobs: Far too many Coloradans are still being left out of our economic recovery and at-risk of getting pushed out of their communities. We must create living wages and flexible workplaces so that working families can make ends meet and thrive. I have devoted my career to creating an economy that works for everyone and will continue to do so in the State Capitol. I have joined countless labor strikes and worker-led rallies to call for higher wages, and I am a big supporter of raising the minimum wage to $15/hr. I will fight to pass paid family and medical leave for all employees, achieve equal pay for women and people of color, and ensure quality, affordable childcare for working families.
- State budget: Colorado’s outstanding potential is limited by the so-called “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” (TABOR). TABOR is an injustice to the taxpayers of Colorado and must be repealed. As a State Senator, I will fulfill my fundamental responsibility to fund our schools, our roads, and our basic community services. I will also stand up to corporate interests and ensure that everyone pays their fair share in our economy. An equitable tax structure that holds corporations accountable will help secure the resources needed for a strong safety net and properly funded services and infrastructure.
- Campaign finance reform: We cannot have a healthy democracy with a rigged campaign finance system. Right now in Colorado, unaccountable “dark money” groups pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into races, including against me. We need stricter reporting requirements, but even more so, we need publicly financed campaigns so that expand the opportunity to run for office to everyone.
- Public education: Our kids are the future of our state, and they deserve a much greater focus on strengthening our public education system. Teachers are under paid, and students are over tested. I will work to make sure teachers are given the resources and freedom they need to fully support their students and create well-rounded learning environments. I will prioritize funding neighborhood schools over charter schools and will work to ease the pressure that over testing puts on students and teachers. You can also count on me to address the rising cost of higher education and overwhelming burden of student debt.
- Affordable housing: The deck is stacked against people just trying to provide a home for their families. Renters have no rights to address rising rent prices and falling quality, and aspiring first time homebuyers can’t keep up with skyrocketing down payments. Too many of our neighbors are being uprooted from their homes and the communities they’ve worked hard to build. As a renter, I understand the extreme housing crisis we’re facing. We need housing policies now that directly benefit people who rent and are saving up to buy, not the developers who build the units. I am committed to fighting for affordable housing and tenant rights from day one in the Capitol.[1]
