Esequiel Mendoza
Esequiel Mendoza (also known as Zeke) ran for re-election to the Harlandale Independent School District school board to represent District 3 in Texas. He died on February 21, 2021, before the general election on May 1, 2021. Mendoza's name still appeared on the ballot.[1]

2017
Five seats on the Harlandale Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district election on May 6, 2017. Four seats were up for general election for four-year terms, and one seat was up for special election for an unexpired two-year term. In District 1, incumbent Juan Mancha was the sole candidate to file in the election. District 3 incumbent Esequiel "Zeke" Mendoza and District 4 incumbent David Abundis also filed for re-election and ran unopposed. Due to lack of opposition the races in Districts 1, 3, and 4 were canceled and the incumbents were automatically re-elected. District 2 incumbent Christine Carrillo defeated challenger Orlando Salazar. In the special election for the open District 5 seat, Jesus Tejeda defeated candidates Christopher Cantu and Josie Scales.[2][3]
Results
Due to lack of opposition this race was canceled, and Mendoza was automatically re-elected.
