Three of the nine seats on the Watertown School Board were up for at-large general election on April 5, 2016. “ |
What are your goals while on the board of education? We have many varied groups within the district and working together is essential for us to continue to grow as a community. As a member of the board my goals are to provide the best educational opportunities to prepare our children for the future and maintain our fiscal responsibility, while exploring new possibilities technology provides our instructors. What do you think are the biggest issues facing Watertown’s public schools? Enrollment, funding, and the hidden costs of school vouchers are three of the biggest issues facing Watertown’s public schools, but I believe that more than ever it is the need to provide a safe environment not only for our students but our instructors and administrators as members of our educational community. How can the school district attract more students through open enrollment? Watertown schools are highly regarded by the community, but we need to work to better emphasize the positive things we are doing as a district to show the opportunities for families in nearby communities who may be considering other options for their families. This isn’t an issue that is going to be solved with short-term solutions. We need to take steps toward a plan that not only addresses our current funding issues but lays the foundation for continued, sustainable growth in the future.[8][9] |
