Gary McKenzie
Gary McKenzie is a judge of the Thirteenth Judicial District Criminal Court in Tennessee. The court presides over Clay, Cumberland, DeKalb, Overton, Pickett, Putnam, and White counties in Tennessee.[1] He was elected on August 7, 2014, and began serving on September 1. His current eight-year term expires in 2022.[2]
Education
McKenzie received his undergraduate degree from Tennessee Tech University in 1997 and his J.D. from the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphrey's School of Law in 2000.[3]
Career
After graduating from law school, McKenzie went to work as an assistant district attorney for the 13th Judicial District, District Attorney General's Office. He was assigned to serve as the lead prosecutor for Cumberland County in 2001 and as the special meth prosecutor for the county in 2004. In 2007, McKenzie was elevated to the position of deputy district attorney general for Cumberland, White, and DeKalb counties to prosecute all homicides and major violent crimes in those counties.[3] He left the office upon his judicial election in 2014.[1]

Primary: He was successful in the Republican primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 55.2 percent of the vote. He competed against Wesley Bray.
General: He defeated William Fred Roberson, Jr. in the general election on August 7, 2014, receiving 67.5 percent of the vote.
