Candidate Connection

Greg Rachal completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Rachal's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Public Safety, Economy/Jobs,

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am passionate about any public policy that helps Jacksonville's economy adapt to the newest market trends, modern consumer demands,

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I would prefer not to say "I look up to (so and so)" because often times people will tie you to that person and mistakenly assume you are identical to that person in terms of judgement, character, and decision making. I do not want to be defined by the record of somebody else. Circumstances, geography, timing, and so many other things are unique to each persons experience who made important decisions. I would like to make my own legacy.

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

I am not a career politician. I do not have books or movies about me.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Honesty, Innovative, Consistent in Principles,

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I have the innovative mindset required to lead in todays world. This is the most important quality required for leadership and because of my experience, it is the sharpest tool in my shed. Throw a problem at me and I will find a solution. Learning how to transform with the rapidly changing modern economy is something you must learn from experience in the real world. You cannot become familiar with innovative solutions through a career in politics.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To serve the people who elected them by responding to their needs/demands promptly

What legacy would you like to leave?

I would like to leave a legacy that inspires people to push the limits of what they can achieve in their communities and give back to their communities as individuals.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

I currently serve on the Taxation, Revenue and Expenditure Commission for the City of Jacksonville and has served as District Commissioner for the Boys Scouts of America.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

As I have stated a couple times; individuals with innovative mindsets are the crown jewels of our society because innovation is the driving force for economic growth and efficiency.

Do you believe that it’s beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

No, there is no indication that the more time you spend in politics the better politician you become. In fact, most people believe the contrary is true.
