Cano ran in the 2012 election for New Mexico House of Representatives District 38. Cano was defeated by Terry Fortenberry in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012. Incumbent Dianne Hamilton (R) is running unopposed in the Republican primary. They face off in the general election on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
