2014
Elections for the New Mexico House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 4, 2014. Incumbent Elizabeth L. Thomson was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Conrad James was unopposed in the Republican primary. James defeated Thomson in the general election.[6][7]
The New Mexico House of Representatives was a battleground chamber that Ballotpedia identified as having the opportunity to switch partisan control in 2014. The New Mexico House had a difference in partisan balance between Democrats and Republican of four seats. District 24 in the House had been identified by Ballotpedia, the New Mexico Telegram and Republican Legislative Campaign Committee (RLCC) as a battleground district that would be key in determining control of the New Mexico House of Representatives. The RLCC announced in July that District 24 was apart of the organizations "14 in '14 Races to Watch." The organization was expected to spend a large amount of money to influence the election. In 2014, incumbent Thomson was defeated by former house member Conrad James (R), who she defeated in 2012 by less than 300 votes.[8][9]

Thomson ran in the 2012 election for New Mexico House of Representatives District 24. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 5, 2012. She defeated incumbent Conrad D. James (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[10][11]

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
